Dear Father Anthony Musaala, brother in priesthood and in Christ,
We, that take part at the Movement of the Families of Married Priests (MFPC) – Ceará – Brazil, address to you, Father Anthony Musaala, to present our support to you. This is due to your suspension, ferendae sententiae ( Canonian Law 1314), imposed by the archbishop of Kampala, Dom Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, in consequence of your true arguments and questioning about the matters concerning the issues related to obligatory celibacy and its consequences.
Please accept the fraternal tenderness of your brothers and sisters, and be sure we will be all united in our common priesthood , making us a community that wants to walk together, as Abraham did, towards new lands, because the old land is already tired and unproductive.
We agree with your observations towards the obligation of celibacy. We also remind you that this issue was already presented and suggested to Pope John Paul II, through the direct intervention of Cardinal Aloísio Lorscheider, while the was visiting our home town Fortaleza, Brazil in July 1980, during the Eucaristical Congress. (it was a document of the married priests presented to him at that time). The answer to that action was a complete silence. As for your attitude, Father Musaala, we heard is has been considered disturbing “creating hate, rage and scorn against the church”, impeding you to exercise your priesthood. It is, since 1980, 33 years ago, we can observe that nothing changed. The “Open Window”, so dreamed by Pope John XXIII, when decided to realize the Council Vatican II, did not came true and the “Springtime” did not arrived in our church.
We were very happy with your wise words, when you said “ it is necessary a campaign in order to touch people about the promotion the optional celibacy , since there is no law concerning this , just the tradition and the discipline of the Church“. As we know in Brazil, there is over 8.000 priest who are married, so an action to move people about the obligatoriness of celibacy is something very necessary, even urgent.
We would like to get together with you in order to build a church that represents a good service to the world, in order to create life. We would like to live in a church that practice the world of Paul the Apostle : “Confessing the truth in love, we will grow in all ways, towards the one who is the leader, Christ.” ( Ef. 4,15) . That is: Christ and His truth will appear if we all together sit at the table to dialogue, and then share the bread as did the disciples of Emaus together with the Resurrected ( Luke 24,30-32).

Obrigado.
